Some impressions from students ...

From Thailand to Belgium

".........I got a lot of experiences about something that I never knew before and the culture of another country. I learned about processing of milk products (cheese, yoghurt, white cheese,  chocomoouse,...) and material for making them. I got a lot of knowledge....."

Kiatnapa Wongchanta

From Thailand to Sweden

"........They taught me the whole of the process. I had practice how to take care of pigs and use the equipment. I got to know new culture, Swedish people...

They arranged my travel and study visit to other animal farms (pig, milkcow, sheep, dog, horse). I went to some celebration, party ... and I traveled to another country in Europe by myself......Do not let your good opportunity away from you!"

Yuwadee Siriwandee

From Serbia and Montenegro to Switzweland

"..........I learned much about vegetable farming. I was helping with all type of work and this will be usefull for finishing studies at my faculty that I am almost finished with, just some more exams.

The most important thing was to pick up vegetables. I was also involved in planting of seeds and plant protection, packing......

I learned how is it on the vegetable farm, using the knowledge from books in real life, what is a farm like........"

Jovan Djukic

From Belgium to Mexico

"...........I've worked on the field (3/4 days), I "cleaned" the coffe plants, maked an inventary of all the trees, treediseases (11 days). I learned a lot about the tropical culture, mind, weather, way of living,.... I learned also some tropical plantdiseases and methodes of plant production,......... visited a lot of other farms (bananas, flowers, sugar, trees, fish)......... and old Maya place and at the end Mexico-city.... Just go for it!"

Pieter Van Dessel

FromGernmany to France

".............milking, care of calves, tractor driving, work on the fields, cleaning cow barn and supply boxes with straw, helping with fruit harvesting, helping with slaughtering and preparing chicken, babysitting, accompanying the vet, visiting different farms in the area, participating in family festivities......

............the family was very open and warm-hearted. They took very good care of me, I really felt like at home. I also learned a lot, not only the language, but a lot about the farm work..........."

Miriam Athmann

From Belgium to Guatemala

".........I went by plane to Guatemala (Iberia)........it is a beautifull country but you must be patient. They don't know stress and to be at time!!! ...... A very big shrimp farm (370 ha with 60 ponts) close to the Pacific ocean (200 m), but you can't go outside for the most of the time because it isn't safe, certainly for girls......... I didn't do a lot. They explain me a lot of times how everything on the farm works. Once a week I had to take samples, weight shrimps from all the ponts to see how they grow. In the lab I had to look for illnesses....."

Lien Terryn

From Belgium to Indonesia

"........Mostly, we planted small orchids or removed them to bigger pots when they became too large. Sometimes we worked into the laminar flow to replace seedlings from one sterile bottle with agar into another. We did a lot of different things, but most of all we talked and laughed......

.........Indonesian people are warm, friendly and especially very polite, their hospitality is really remarkable. I realised that the knowledge of the Indonesian students is more practical, more applied and more useful than the pure theoretical knowledge of Belgian students.

.......one of my friends took me to the church, so I was able to see an Indonesian Eucharist. I saw Indonesia through eyes of Indonesians instead visiting Indonesia as a common tourist.
I recommend Indonesia and Soerjanto Orchids to everyone who wants to have an unforgettable exchange programme!"

Maaike Liekens

From Mexico to Germany

"........I worked from 7 am to 4 pm at this small Dairy  factory. I had a break at 10 am and at 2 pm to eat at a restaurant. I had to do a little bit of everything, like filling out the milk tanks, taking care of fermented cheese, help to make and pack butter, help to make and pack quark, making and packing flavored milk and yogurt, also, to clean the machines after using them.

I learned How to make flavored milk, cheese, cream, butter, quark, the precautions, how to work 8 hours without sitting, because I've never worked on a factory before......."

Ana Gabriela Ortiz

From Finland to Austria

".......The most important thing is that now I really know what it is to live in the countryside...." . I learned a lot new things about the horses and what it is to breed them. What I also learned is to cook for 8 people. Also my German is now a lot better. The funniest thing is that they taught me dancing Linedance........"

Katarina Hägg

From Belgium to Kenia

"....... On the farm I learned how people manage to grow crops on a very different way from ours, a much more primitive way........

.......Sitting on that farm made me realise there are more then one  kind of beans in different colours and shapes and each with his own taste...."

.......I realy enjoyed milking a cow with my own hands and never realised you needed so many muscles to get some milk out of it......"

Katrien Delaet

From Belgium to Hungary

".......I didn't feel at home at my first farm at all because the owner just used me as an employee. I had to work from 5.30 a.m.  till 8 p.m.  and had to do the boring jobs. He never said anything to me but was always complaining about me against others.

The second farm was completely opposite: the people who worked there were excited to teach me new things and the atmosphere was a lot more fun. I was working with horses with a swiss guy, but after one week I wasn't allowed to work with him anymore because "we made to much fun"...."

Johan Evers

From Belgium to Togo

".......I learned a lot about the local food, the local way of living. They don’t have a lot of money and still are always happy. This was for me the greatest contrast between the north and south of the globe...."

Kris Callebaut

From Belgium to Georgia

".......They told they started registration of farmers only two years ago. A lot of people, also in the outskirts of the city, own some pigs, chickens or a cow. During the day animals are walking wherever they want on the street and there is no registration of them....

.......The bee farmer told me about life of bees, harvest of honey, breeding bee queens, splitting of a colony and some more things.

......I also saw some footsteps of Dino’s......We visited Batumi and swum in the sea. In the evenings my new host was teaching me to sing Georgian songs while playing the guitar,...we visited the private bath of Stalin in Tskhaltubo..."
