The International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) runs an educational exchange in the field of Agriculture and related Sciences. Students go abroad for practical training to complement their theoretical knowledge with practical experience. The participation of farmers, agro-industry companies, research institutions and agricultural related Non-governmental organizations has always been the backbone of the program.

What is the Exchange Program ?

Working with you students have an opportunity to experience and learn about agriculture and related sciences on the international level thereby broadening their views. It is also an opportunity to learn about different cultures.

There two programs; The Ceres program and the Archimedes Program. You can choose the program that fits you.

  • The Ceres is the on-farm trainings; in this case students attend training on the farms.

  • The Archimedes is the non-farm trainings; in this case the students seek experience from farmer organizations, agro-industry companies, research institutions and agricultural related Non-governmental organizations.
  •
The benefits of employers to participate in the exchange program

  • Sharing of ideas, knowledge and experience between students and employers

  • Prospective employees

How to get involved in our exchange program ?

IAAS have a national exchange coordinator in every member country to coordinate the exchange program and that person will be the contact person for your institution or farm. He or she determines the practical arrangements for the student to attend training in your farm or institution.

You can find IAAS in your country here

Who pays travel costs and travel insurance?

The students are responsible for paying their travel to the intended destination of training.

    Who pays for health insurance?

This also depends on the law of your country but the students will take care of insuring themselves in their home country.

Do they receive a salary ?

The salaries depend on the law of the country. Our aim is not to earn but to learn. Some employers don't pay the students but they offer the student accommodation and food while some include the exchange student in their annual budget as part of their working force.

    Who finds accommodation?

In the event that the Farmer or employer does not provide accommodation, our national exchange coordinator from that country will go ahead and look for accommodation for the students.

    Duration of the exchange program

    Minimum: 1 month
    Maximum: 12 Months.
The employer and the student can agree on the commencing date and date of departure.

Do host farmers or organizations have to write the regular performance reports on the students?

As this is educational, if the University of the Students needs the final evaluation of the student, the student will provide the form to the employer on arrival. In IAAS it is only our student who will fill in the evaluation forms for their training and once in a while we interview employers to hear their opinions on students.

    The working hours and holidays

The working hours will be according to the law of the country where the student is going to attend training. In any different case the student should be informed in advance.

What is the hosts other responsibilities?

It is up to the employers if they want to arrange cultural visits for the students and our national exchange coordinators can assist.

    Student travel arrangements and arrival

Upon getting a place, our national exchange coordinators help the students getting through the visa process, writing invitation letters and if need be, the employers can assist. The employers can chose to collect the student on arrival or our exchange coordinators can do it. We have national exchange coordinators in all our member countries to assist you.

    Choosing a student

Our exchange program applications are done online. The exchange coordinator can print the application for the employers to select the best candidates or the farmer can mandate the exchange coordinator to submit a certain number of students suitable for his farm.

How to make places available for exchange students?

Normally when the employers or farmer organizations respond that they will accept the students they need fill a form in which they have to answer questions of what they will provide and all the conditions available for the students. The more the students are informed in advance, the better prepared for the successful training.

How to contact IAAS in my country ?

Off course, for every country the situation is different. Please contact our national exchange coordinator for more information about expro in your country
